Inclusive insurance and risk financing in Ecuador. Snapshot and way forward 2024
This report presents the main findings of UNDP’s inclusive insurance and risk finance country diagnostic for Ecuador. It sets out key risks, the current inclusive insurance and disaster risk finance landscape, and recommendations to advance inclusive insurance, risk finance and development.
Ecuador’s major risks include earthquakes, volcanic activity, floods and landslides. Inclusive insurance is at an early stage, but microinsurance regulations are under development. A Disaster Risk Financing Strategy has been created but has not yet been implemented.
Recommendations include defining, regulating and encouraging innovation in microinsurance; implementing the Disaster Risk Financing Strategy; and improving coordination of information and data between institutions and sectors.
